LIV calls for clarification of COVID-19 restrictions re provision of legal services

By Law Institute of Victoria

In a letter to the Victorian Attorney-General, the LIV has raised several issues regarding the application of the Stage 3 Stay at Home Directions to the provision of legal services.

Legal services are not presently included as a necessary service in clause 6(c) of the Directions, raising concerns that clients or their lawyers could be fined under the Directions for meeting to witness wills or powers of attorney.

The letter says that legal services are a necessary service and are critical to the peaceful functioning of society.
