Intentionally short-changing employees of pay entitlements is tantamount to theft and should be criminalised, a Young Workers Centre roundtable has been told. Employees are failing to pay penalty rates, overtime payments and superannuation entitlements, as well as withholding part-time benefits like sick pay and holiday pay at alarming rates, Young Workers Centre coordinator Keelia Fitzpatrick said. Most vulnerable are young people and temporary migrant workers.
