The future of environmental law

The future of environmental law

By Dr Leonie Kelleher OAM

Environmental Protection

Future environmental law is likely to be highly significant in protecting future environments, but is also likely to transform legal principles and systems. Snapshot: The future of environmental law, with its direct link to the future of our planet, requires sustained efforts by lawyers now. It will likely involve extension of current legislation and jurisprudence, new organisations and improved monitoring of environmental algorithms and models, along with extension of existing law concerning outer space, Antarctica and the deep ocean floor. It presents massive challenges for the legal profession. It requires forward thinking, creativity and invention. There is no magic wand.
