Research has concluded that the legal profession has one of the highest rates of moderate to severe depressive symptoms, and use of alcohol or other drugs to reduce or manage feelings of sadness and depression. The Brain and Mind Research Institute through the Courting the Blues: Attitudes towards depression in Australian law students and legal practitioners research report found 46.9% of law students; 55.7% of lawyers and 52.3% of barristers reported having experienced depression.
