Get Involved

Succession Law Section Objectives

The objectives of the Section are to:

  • Promote appropriate standards of competency and ethics for succession law practitioners;
  • Support succession law practitioners and provide a forum for discussion and continuing education;
  • Make an impact on the law; and
  • Assist in furthering the objectives of the LIV.

Broader Involvement

The Succession Law Section contributes to the following groups:

  • Law Council National Elder Law and Succession Law Committee
  • Department of Justice Powers of Attorney Advisory Group
  • Department of Justice Succession Laws Consultation Group
  • Supreme Court Probate Users Group
  • Guardianship List Users Group – Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT)

How to Join the Succession Law Section

All LIV members are entitled to join the Succession Law Section.

This can be done by logging into the LIV website (using your user name and password), clicking on the tab at the top of the page which has your name on it, then at the top of the page selecting the "My LIV Profile" tab and clicking on "Membership" from the dropdown options.

You will then be able to join the Succession Law Section by selecting the “Succession Law” option and then clicking "save" at the bottom of the page.

By joining the Succession Law Section, you will receive tailored information regarding succession law and activities of the Succession Law Section, as well as being able to attend and vote at the Succession Law Section Annual General Meeting. Joining the Succession Law Section is also a prerequisite for joining the Section’s Committee and any sub-groups or working groups.

The Section aims to support succession lawyers through the provision of education and training in this area of law.

Succession Law Section Executive Committee

The LIV’s Succession Law Section has an Executive Committee which advocates for reform and policy change with respect to succession law and frequently liaises with the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Law Council of Australia, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and the Elder Law Committee. The Executive Committee sets the overall agenda and policy direction for the Succession Law Section and works to ensure the objectives of the Succession Law Section are met.
