LIV Library: COVID-19 Update

The LIV Library is closed to external visitors until further notice. During this period, LIV Library services and support available to LIV members and members of the legal profession include:

  • Remote access to databases, catalogue search and other resources – Contact the library team on (03) 9607 9360 or
  • eLending – Eligible LIV members can continue to access Lexis Red digital looseleaf items and CCH eBooks for a short loan of 2 days. Visit the Remote Access Databases page to learn more.
  • Borrowing – The return due date for all items currently on loan has been extended until our office reopens. New requests for borrowing of hard copy books will not be taken until further notice.
  • Archive service – Online archive requests are temporarily suspended. For urgent requests, email These will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Document supply service and research service – Online requests are temporarily suspended. Members can contact the LIV Library via email on with requests, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, subject to availability of the research databases.
  • Legal research training – Training is postponed until further notice.
  • Law Institute Journal – To access to archived issues of the LIJ please contact the LIV Library on (full-text articles available from July 2002 onward).

LIV library services are only available to LIV members and members of the legal profession. Members of the public are able to access legal library resources at Victoria Legal Aid.


Library borrowing is available to practising full members, associate members and honorary members of the LIV. The standard loan period is 14 days, with a single one week extension available unless the item has been reserved by another member. Items borrowed are the responsibility of the member. A replacement and administration charge per item will be payable on items not returned within three weeks of the due date.
