To assist you in locating professionals in your area or within a specific area of law the LIV has established an online directory service and legal referral service.
LIV Legal Referral Service
The LIV's phone and online Legal Referral Service provides free referrals to solicitors all over Victoria. All referrals are to LIV members who have agreed to see clients for up to the first 30 minutes free of charge. Normal fees will be charged after the first 30 minutes. Referrals are made according to practice area, geographic location, preferred language and other specific requirements.
Victorian Legal Practices
The Victorian Legal Practices directory enables you to search for Victorian law firms by region, town or suburb. You can also limit your search to those firms which have accredited specialists or mediators, or which have joined the LIV's Legal Referral Service.
Accredited Specialists
Choosing the right lawyer is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. The LIV Accredited Specialists directory enables you to search for LIV members who are experts in their field and who have successfully completed the LIV's rigorous Accredited Specialisation program. LIV Accredited Specialists practise in business law, commercial litigation, commercial tenancy law, criminal law, environmental, planning & local government law, family law, immigration law, mediation, personal injury law, property law, tax law, wills & estates and workplace relations.
Mediators
Mediators are experts in alternative dispute resolution, which avoids the need to go to court. This can save you money and time, as well as preserving important relationships. The LIV's Mediators Directory allows you to search for a trained mediator who works in the area of law you require in your region or suburb.
Collaborative Professionals
Collaborative law is a method of dispute resolution used in family, civil and commercial law matters. It encourages an open and cooperative environment, where both parties and their lawyers work towards a fair solution without resorting to litigation. The collaborative professionals directory lists all LIV members who have undergone specialised training in interest-based negotiation and collaborative protocols. In addition, LIV is growing the directory to include a list of financial advicers, psychologists and councellors.
Notary Public
A Notary Public is a lawyer who can administer oaths and statutory declarations, witness affidavits, statutory declarations and other documents, certify and authenticate documents, and perform certain other acts in relation to documents in Australia but intended to be used overseas.
