17 – 23 May 2010
Law Week is an annual event which aims to promote greater understanding within the community of the law, the legal system and the legal profession.
The theme for Law Week 2010 is “Law and Justice in the Community”. More than 200 law-based events will be held throughout Victoria, including seminars, exhibitions, court and parliament tours and many other public events and displays.

Law Week for LIV members – how to get involved
Law Week offers LIV members the opportunity to engage with other businesses or community organisations and publicly promote their expertise.
As an LIV member you can promote your practice and the legal profession during Law Week in a number of ways:
- Let your clients know of the many public events taking place during Law Week. Visit the Law Week website for full program details.
- Conduct your own local seminar on an area of your practice expertise, such as family law, personal injury or wills and estates. Invite your current clients and contact local newspapers, councils and business networks to help spread the word. Many of our members have taken advantage of this opportunity in previous years and we encourage more members to do so.
- Contact legal studies teachers at your local secondary schools and offer to present a “Careers in law” session for legal studies students.
- Offer a special “Law Week” discount on a selection of your services if they are booked during Law Week; promote your offer through local papers, on your website and through business networks.
- Conduct a mail out to your current clients to promote your Law Week event, special offers and Law Week information which may be of interest to them.
- Approach your local newspapers or community radio station about Law Week and offer yourself, or one of your colleagues, as an interview subject on a topic such as “a day in the life of a lawyer” or “what you need to know about wills and estates” for a special Law Week feature.
Getting involved – how we can assist
We are interested to know how our members get involved in law week. If you plan to undertake a law week event, activity or promotion, register your activity with us and we can provide you with a range of resources to support you, including:
- Listing your event on the Law Week website (instructions will be provided and the event must be registered by individual or organisation hosting the event)
- A Law Week poster template (word version) to assist you in promoting your event.
- Legal Information Brochures relevant to your area of practice to distribute to event attendees or potential clients. Brochure topics include: Wills and Estates, Family Law, Divorce and Division of Property and Dealing with Debt. The full range of Legal Information Brochures is available for purchase from the LIV Bookshop.
- Copies of the May edition of Client News for distribution to current and potential clients. Additional copies of Client News can be ordered via the LIV website.

Please include event title, date, contact details, your firm’s area of practice and DX or mail address when you register your Law Week event or activity. We will then send your resource kit and instructions on how to list your event on the Law Week website. Resource kits will be distributed in late April.
