Advertising your Specialisation
Advertising your Accredited Specialisation is a key way to ensure that the public, and your peers, are aware that you are an Accredited Specialist. To protect the value of your credential, a number of rules have been developed over time which you need to be aware of.
Advertising rules and guidelines
Advertising your Accredited Specialisation must adhere to the following rules and guidelines;
An Accredited Specialist is a solicitor recognised by the Law Institute of Victoria as having expertise in a particular area of law. The rules for advertising have been established to ensure that the scheme is valued. The rules also aim to protect the public by making it easy for them to identify an Accredited Specialist.
The key rules to consider when deciding on your advertising include;
- Rule 1.3 – “Specialist accreditation is an attainment of an individual practitioner and does not pertain to his or her firm”

- Rules 6.3.3 – “Accredited specialists may use the specialist accreditation logo only in accordance with the guidelines published by the Institute from time-to-time“

- Rule 35.3 – “A practitioner who is an Accredited specialist in an area of practice, may use the word ‘specialist’ or a direct derivative of that word in advertising the area of practitioners practice “
