This means you should be able to view all pages on the internet without any issues. More importantly, you will be able to take advantage of the technological improvements provided by these browsers such as increased security and privacy.

Password Troubleshooting
You may have supplied the wrong credentials (e.g. bad user name or password) or you may have encountered some other problem, you might like to try again, or return to the homepage of the LIV web site. If you have forgotten your password then simply click on the Forgotten Password link under the login area. An email box will appear. Enter your email address and if it is verified with our system it will be sent to the email address you provided.
-
Case sensitive: Ensure that you enter your password in CAPITAL letters as it is case sensitive. Either hold down the shift key or enable the [Caps Lock] key but don't use both simultaneously.
-
No extra characters: Do not enter any spaces when entering your user name or password.
-
Using the key-pad: If you are using the key-pad on your keyboard in order to enter numbers then make sure that you have the "Num lock" key enabled - a light on your keyboard should be lit.
-
Invisible input: When entering your password online the characters entered are concealed as you type them. To confirm that the keyboard is transmitting what you are typing try typing your password in a blank W.P. document first.
-
New member: If you have only recently joined the Law Institute as a member then there may be a slight delay in the activation of your web access. This should be no more than 7 business days.
-
Caching problems: Note that web page caches, typically used by ISPs as a part of your own internet connection and automatically by your own web browser, are intended to increase internet access by storing copies of frequently accessed web pages. They can however interfere with password access or the currency of web pages that you are viewing. If you are having difficulty using password protected areas or suspect that you may be viewing an old version of a page then try the following:
Select or click on the [Reload] or [Refresh] menu items or buttons in your web browser to obtain the current version of a web page. If these buttons are not on the tool bar of your web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer for example) then you should find them in the View menu. If you have both options (refresh and reload) choose [Reload].
If you are using Internet Explorer™ then go into the [Tools] and then [Internet Options] menu, choose the [General] tab, in the "Temporary Internet Files" area click on [Delete Files]. This will purge temporary internet web pages cached on your computer. Note this may take up to 70 seconds. If you are using Netscape Navigator™ then go to the [Edit] menu, choose [Preferences], then the [Advanced] branch of the categories, double click on [Cache], Choose [Clear Disk Cache] and then [Clear Memory Cache] to purge the temporary web pages cached on your computer.
Note that the caching of web pages on some proxy servers is very persistent. If your colleagues use the same internet connection and they have failed to access a members only area on the site then you may receive this error message page automatically instead of the correct page. If this is the case then close and restart your web browser then try to reload or clear the temporary files as outlined above.
-
Short cut: Tired of entering your password every time you visit the site? If you are using the most current web browser then you can generally get it to store passwords so that the browser automatically enters them for you. There is a tick-box for this in the dialogue that appears when you are prompted for your password. Only choose this option if your computer is secured by some other means and do not use this short cut if you are using a public terminal.
-
Further assistance: If you are a current LIV member then you should have received a letter about your Web site log-in details and password. If you have not received such information or you do not know your password or you have forgotten it, then contact the Members' Information Centre on telephone (03) 9607 9322 or email mic@liv.asn.au.
PDF files
Portable Document Format (PDF) files provide consistent results when printed. We offer a PDF version of some documents on the LIV web site so you can print a properly formatted copy.
PDFs are provided primarily so that a paper copy can be printed and read. In order to view and print PDF files, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Most computers already have this software installed, but if yours does not, you can download Acrobat Reader for free from the Adobe Web site.
Troubleshooting
If you have trouble installing or using Acrobat Reader, please visit the Adobe support page at http://www.adobe.com/support/main.html.
Using older versions of Acrobat Reader may cause problems viewing PDF documents within a Web browser. Upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat Reader by going to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.
If you have Acrobat Reader installed, and PDF files are appearing as a blank window in your web browser, use the "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" option to download the PDF file directly to your hard drive and bypass the Acrobat Reader plug-in.
-
Using the right mouse button click on the link of the file that you are interested in.
-
Select the "save target as" option in Internet Explorer, or "save link as" in Netscape.
-
Make sure you name the file (or accept the name supplied).
-
Know the location of where you are saving it (your desktop or My Documents for instance).
-
Hit save.
-
Use the Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the file after downloading. If you have Acrobat Reader installed but have trouble printing a particular document, try selecting "Print as image" when your system displays the print options window.
